Coffee Geographical Character

Experts can often tell a coffee’s origin from a single sip. Here’s a quick guide to local character.

Africa
Did you know that Ethiopia is the birth place of the Arabica tree? Top-quality beans, mostly from Ethiopia and Kenya, are known for floral and chocolaty notes as well as vibrant acidity. African coffee has a distinctive, strong aroma.

Central America
The best producers are Costa Rica and Guatemala. Their coffees tend to be lighter-bodied and fruity with sharp acidity. Further South - Brazil produces about 1/3 of all the coffee consumed in the world.

Indonesia
These coffees are usually full-bodied with low acidity and earthy flavors. Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of robusta beans with about 10% of production in Arabica. Kopi Luwak is a rare, gourmet coffee from Indonesia that is made from beans passed through the digestive system of monkeys.
